I didn't write a poem every day for a year.
Across the road there's men on the roof attending to a cube.
"A fancy cube is what this roof needs,"
someone said at some point.
And then years later, sighing:
"We need to renovate the cube."

The bland sky is so thin compared to the deep sweeping greyness of home.
There's nothing to rely on in this place's grey;
it doesn't hug you and mountains in the same grasp,
it sidles by judgingly.

They added windows to the cube. Good for them.
I can see through it a new blue-tinted shade of malaise
where the sun burns hopeful gradients into the tree line.
